Half-Life: Alyx will go down in history not (only) as the first great VR game, but as the seminal creativity spark the gaming industry needed to really get going on the virtual reality front. Case in point: the fact that GoldenEye 64 is being remade for VR platforms with development tools Valve released alongside its Half-Life prequel.
Facility and Dam levels already fully playable
The project’s Steam Workshop page lends itself to optimism due to a decent-looking track record of consistent, structured updates. Which isn’t to say the thing will get done, just that it seems to have started from a better place than most overly ambitious modding projects do.
For now, you can play the VR recreations of Dam and Facility maps. Fingers crossed the rest get added in the near future.
