Warhammer Classics Humble Bundle

Humble Bundle is once again pulling out the Warhammer banners as its latest iteration features no fewer than 11 games from the famous Games Workshop franchise. Simply titled Humble Warhammer Bundle 2020, the charitable gaming package is available until the final week of July.

The basic $1 tier includes Warhammer 40,000 classics Kill Team and Dawn of War, as well as Legacy of Dorn: Herald of Oblivion and the elegantly named Warhammer: End Times – Vermintide.

More than just 40k classics

Pay more than the average and you’ll also get a trio of Warhammer 40k titles in Dawn of War II, Sanctus Reach, and Deathwatch – Enhanced Edition, with Battlefleet Gothic: Armada completing this set.

Finally, at just over $13, the Humble Warhammer Bundle 2020 includes Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine Collection, Dawn of War III, and Blood Bowl 2: Legendary Edition, in addition to a free month of Humble Choice for new subscribers which is usually available at this donation level.

The bundle was launched in support of British charity SpecialEffect, as well as Covenant House, a U.S. nonprofit dedicated to helping homeless youth. As always, you’re able to choose among thousands of other benefactors you’d prefer to support instead with your purchase.

Edgy battle royale Hyper Scape enters open beta

Hyper Scape enters open beta

If you’re intrigued by the prospect of the world’s first battle royale built exclusively for Twitch, then feel free to give Ubisoft’s Hyper Scape a go – as soon you help us understand what that tagline is supposed to mean.

In any case, Hype Scape open beta sign-ups are still open, with the game already amassing quite a sizable following of over 180,000 Twitch users. This expanded testing period follows the original test launch from July 2nd when Ubisoft first announced its new battle royale contender.

Ubisoft’s here to eat Epic’s cake

Initial players impressions are relatively positive, particularly in regards to how polished Hyper Scape feels compared to some other mainstream titles in the battle royale genre whose names start with an “F” and end with “ortnite”.

The PC beta will soon be followed by its PS4 and Xbox One equivalents, though Ubisoft is still still stingy on the details. Cross-play support is said to be part of the package but may not launch before Hyper Scape is officially out. In case you even had any doubts – the game will utilize a free-to-play business model with optional microtransactions offering cosmetics and similar miscellaneous content.

On the other hand, it seems that there are no plans for gating content behind seasonal passes in the vein of what Epic has been doing with Fortnite over the last three years.

Twitch plays U.S. Army recruiters over fake giveaways

0
US-Army-Esports-Twitch-Discord-ban-constitution

The U.S. Army seems to have finally met its match on quite an unexpected front – Twitch.

Uncle Sam’s forces have long since weaponized all forms of media and communications in their search for recruits. They often did so in scummy ways like, say, fake online giveaways. Coincidentally, that’s precisely what’s at the center of this story.

Twitch claims it put a stop to the practice before public backlash

An independent investigation conducted by The Nation found the U.S. Army repeatedly running Twitch chat giveaways promising Xbox Elite Series 2 controllers. The giveaways, however, redirected viewers to a generic recruitment page with no mention of any such raffle taking place. Which is a blatant violation of the Amazon-owned platform’s terms of service.

Acclaimed developer Bruno Dias publicly inquired whether the Army gets a pass for violating Twitch’s ToS because they aren’t after money but “blood”, referencing how the entire scheme was set up to trick gullible youth into giving away their personal information.

Twitch says it made the Army put a stop to the practice but claims it did so even before the public backlash that ensued. The channel in question, run by the Army’s eSports team, has lately been bombarded with questions about war crimes and other less gentlemanly issues associated with armed forces.

GoldenEye VR is happening thanks to Half-Life: Alyx modders

0
Golden Eye VR

Half-Life: Alyx will go down in history not (only) as the first great VR game, but as the seminal creativity spark the gaming industry needed to really get going on the virtual reality front. Case in point: the fact that GoldenEye 64 is being remade for VR platforms with development tools Valve released alongside its Half-Life prequel.

Facility and Dam levels already fully playable

The project’s Steam Workshop page lends itself to optimism due to a decent-looking track record of consistent, structured updates. Which isn’t to say the thing will get done, just that it seems to have started from a better place than most overly ambitious modding projects do.

For now, you can play the VR recreations of Dam and Facility maps. Fingers crossed the rest get added in the near future.

New GPU gen appears imminent as NVIDIA relaxes production

0
Next gen NVIDIA GPU

NVIDIA started downsizing its RTX 2000-series production lines in China, according to reports from various tech news sites. The exact extent of the slowdown is still unclear, but as the directive is said to encompass essentially every mass-produced RTX line from the firm’s portfolio, the move clearly signals a new GPU generation is on the horizon.

Though NVIDIA cards are selling as well as ever, the company has a long history of gradual generational switches, not just because many of its customers find it hard to stop looking around the corner for the next big thing in tech, but also due to the fact the RTX generation of GPUs hardly blew the previous iteration of its cards out of the water.

Don’t rush into a GPU purchase before fall

None of that is to say ray-tracing and similar technologies don’t have a bright future in various industries. Maybe the GTX 1000-series cards were simply ahead of their time, but given how the lineup is primarily marketed to gamers, the 4-year-old GPUs continue to perform remarkably well.

Of course, with the advent of a new console generation, PC gaming requirements may start seeing a first sizable increase in over seven years. In the meantime, NVIDIA’s partners and distributors will be clearing out stock in preparation for the RTX 3000-series cards whose initial versions are expected to be targeted at high-end systems, as was the case with the Turing-based RTX 2000 family launched two years ago.

Unlike 2018, however, AMD is now expected to provide much fiercer GPU competition to NVIDIA, not unlike what it has been doing in the CPU segment for a while now. Then again, it feels like we’ve been saying that for a decade.

Konami skipping PES 2021 to focus on next-gen football

0
mock-visual_pes2021

Pro Evolution Soccer 2021 won’t be a standalone game but an update to eFootball PES 2020, Konami announced. The Japanese studio said the decision was made so that the development team can focus on making PES 2022 a truly next-gen football simulation experience.

Though cynics may inquire about this mysterious concept of PC generations in response to the news, it’s hardly a secret that both PES and FIFA, the only mainstream contenders in the space, generate the majority of their sales on consoles. More specifically, PlayStation and Xbox consoles, both of which are due for a generational upgrade this holiday season.

Awkward time for a 25th anniversary

Konami’s DLC-sized release, officially called eFootball PES 2021 Season Update, is due to arrive on September 15th. Due to the seasonal delays caused by COVID-19, some player and club data will be added on launch day. An offline tournament mode including all 55 UEFA national teams will be available from day one, as well, even though the actual EURO 2020 tournament has been postponed until next year.

Coincidentally, this happens to be the 25th anniversary of the long-running franchise, and Konami is also working on some club editions of the game, so expect pricing to be all over the place. The only thing that’s certain is that the cheapest way to buy the game will be through eFootball PES 2020 as doing so will yield a flat 20% discount. Of course, you won’t have to own the previous installment just to buy its modest sequel.

The PC version of PES 2021 will be distributed as a digital Steam exclusive.

Halo 3 finally ported to PC

0
Halo 3 PC Hits Steam

Nearly 13 years have passed since Halo 3 debuted on Xbox 360, meaning a desire to see the game ported to PC grew alongside an entire generation of gamers.

Microsoft finally granted that wish, in accordance with its 2019 announcement. Therefore, you can now play Halo 3 unencumbered by any technical limitations, with the game being available for purchase not just on the Microsoft Store, but also via Steam.

Halo 3: ODST and Halo 4 ports also on the way

Following this release, Halo 3: ODST and Halo 4 are the only remaining games from the Master Chief Collection that are yet to see the light of RGB-heavy day on PC. Both ports have already been confirmed, however.

Halo: Infinite is also scheduled to launch on PC in the fourth quarter of the year, so the only installment from the long-running FPS franchise that still lacks a confirmed Windows port is the 2015 Halo 5: Guardians.

Amid earthquakes and pandemic, Gamepires releases timely SCUM update

d8f47c7f012b69a5665f9aeb85a6ede5ffe1f88a

Croatian game developer Gamepires made quite a splash with its multiplayer survival game SCUM, which continues to receive regular updates even as its home city of Zagreb is under coronavirus-imposed lockdown. Making matters even worse was a series of devastating earthquakes that occurred in the early morning hours of this past Sunday, March 22nd. But the combination of a global pandemic and the worst seismic catastrophe the Croatian capital has seen in the last 140 years wasn’t enough to prevent a new SCUM update from releasing less than a week later.

Keep calm and carry on debugging

As Gamepires itself explained it in SCUM patch notes 0.3.74.21350, its Zagreb office took a rather rough beating from the 5.3-magnitude earthquake series. Furthermore, smaller tremors kept shaking the city all through the week. Gamepires nevertheless resumed its development almost immediately, showing an impressive level of dedication and passion toward their indie project. All of this happened just weeks after the World Health Organization proclaimed COVID-19 a global pandemic, after which all non-essential businesses in Croatia were shut down by the government.

For the uninitiated, SCUM is a multiplayer online survival game set in a vast, open world spanning 144 square kilometers. Players assume the role of convicts imprisoned on a menacing islan, with their goal being to survive and escape their predicament. Gamepires has been regularly updating the game for several years now and is presently largely focused on deepening its customization mechanics, allowing even more role-playing freedom to players.

The Croatian gaming studio first gained widespread notoriety with an action-packed racing title Gas Guzzlers published in 2013 by Iceberg Interactive. It followed up on that success with SCUM, which hit Steam Early Access in late summer of 2018. According to its publisher, Devolver Digital, SCUM hit 250,000 digital sales within the first 24 hours, then went on to surpass a cool million in under a month. SCUM is currently set for a full-fledged release sometime in 2020.

Silent Hill Remaster, a Metal Gear Solid Remake and much more

0
Silent Hills

Look, at one point I was worried about Konami. Kojima left, PES lost to FIFA, Castlevania couldn’t get its former glory back up and the company de-listed on the New York Stock Exchange. Soon after that we got the Silent Hill hiatus that is still on-going and, just now, I saw that Kazuhisa Hashimoto, the programmer famous for the “↑ ↑ ↓ ↓ ← → ← → B, A, Start” cheat code, has died at the age of 61.

With all of that in mind one would say that Konami is doing bad, but that’s far from the truth. Seems like the company finally got everything under control and one year from now we will have the company back on its feet.

Castlevania, Metal Gear Solid and Silent Hill are supposedly kicking strong

At the beginning of this year Konami was all over the place. First we got the news that they will introduce new Silent Hill games this quarter, which in the end resulted with updated games for their Slot Machine business, the segment that mostly targets land based and online casinos like Betsafe Canada, and not full fledged console/PC games as we would like to. After that a new round of rumors started swirling around Castlevania, but not the game – the Netflix series that got it’s green light for Season 2.

Now, as we almost enter Q2, we finally have some proper game rumors.

As reported by Gaming Leaks on Reddit, Netflix’s Castlevania was a success with the fans of the series, and Konami started with a new game that has now been in production for almost two years. It will be an open-world game with skill trees and a weapon/armor upgrade system. The game will feature Trevor, Sypha, Alucard and Grant in a squad like system similar to FF XV.

Silent Hills, the remake of the original game, will also soon be introduced to the market, as well as Metal Gear Solid 4 that will get dedicated next-gen versions of the game, mainly targeting the PS5 and Xbox Series X. As expected though, there will be no new MGS games released this year, since Kojima has been quit busy with his own ventures, so only expect remakes of games that Konami has full ownership of.

The only thing that will not change it seems is Pro Evolution Soccer, but it’s not like we mind it. FIFA has been holding monopoly over the soccer market for a while now, and it seems it’s here to stay.

Samsung’s New Galaxy M10s

0
Samsung M10s Released

When the Samsung User Manual for the Galaxy M10s appeared on the company’s Indian website, consumers were left speculating about the date of release, some of its features, and the price, among other details.

By publishing the user manual, which was done just before the launch of the Galaxy A50s in India, Samsung India gave buyers a sneak peek of what the new gadget had to offer. Today, Samsung Galaxy M10s is available in your favourite mobile phone stores. But if you haven’t gotten yours yet, you could be wondering whether you are missing anything at all.

Samsung Galaxy M10s – An Upgrade to the M10

Basically, Samsung’s Galaxy M10s is an improved version of its M10 model. The main upgrade relates to its performance, with the M10s having improved processing time thanks to the advanced Exynos 7-Octa 7884B chip. This is a 64-bit octa-core mobile processor specially built to deliver high performance for both always-on and intensive phone tasks. In contrast, the Exynos 7870 chip used in the Galaxy M10 was focused on efficiency. The M10s has expandable internal storage of 32GB and 3GB RAM. It comes with Android Pie installed, but users can easily upgrade to Android 10. Another upgrade from the M10, which uses a micro-USB port, is the USB Type-C port.

Additional Upgrades and Battery Life

Samsung’s Galaxy M10s has two rear cameras of 15 and 5 Mega Pixels (MP) working together to capture rich, detailed images. The front lens is 8MP and will ensure you capture equally excellent selfies. The M10s has a 3.3mm headphone jack and fingerprint sensors mounted on its rear side. With the more powerful processor and added functionalities, users might expect a higher capacity battery. Fortunately, Samsung didn’t disappoint and the Galaxy M10s comes with a Li-ion fast-charging battery of 4,000mAh that matches its improved processing power. Just like most mobiles in Samsung’s Galaxy M series, the M10s is here to offer excellent performance at an affordable price.

There is still hope for Anthem

0
There is still hope for Anthem

Anthem is a game in critical condition, there’s no doubt about it. Its establishment was messy; great plans have been dropped due to the loss of high-profile personnel such as the lead producer, as well as the head of live service. To make it even worse, the top seasonal convention announced earlier this month barely made headlines.

Though EA has supported it, there is a good reason why fans might still have doubts about it. Kotaku warned that the reports on the impending demise of Anthem are fabricated. Bioware has developers in Edmonton and Austin planning a complete revamp of the game. Some call it Anthem 2.0 or Anthem Next.

Dilemma Between BioWare and EA

BioWare and EA are wondering how to distribute it, either through an array of updates, a single revamp, or an entirely new game. However, the site affirmed that most of the major systems, like the mission structure, loot, and game world, will change. One critical change would split the Tarsis game world into sections to allow developers to work on specific parts without having to worry about leakage bugs throughout the game world. This would help make Anthem more Destiny-like, especially in its basic structure. Some reports stated that they took several months to tear it down and figure the necessary changes and have been rebuilding for months now.

Even though there is no precise information, the important thing is that BioWare and EA are working out the details. Anthem needs critical changes and upgrades, and it’s all a gamble. Even though players won’t return, there is a likelihood of large scale turnarounds. Destiny 2 spent some years discovering its feet. Also, the considerable persistence of Hello Games took No Man’s Sky from being a major disappointment to an ultimately exciting game. Though Anthem requires much to be done, it’s not beyond the world of possibility. Just like Destiny 2 and Hello Games, Anthem too will be restored to an incredible game.

Human Head Studios has closed down operations

Human Head Studios Closes Down

The creator of the survival game Prey has finally brought its operations to an end. Human Head Studios which was founded in the late 1990s has shut down its operations, and its last game will be the action RPG Rune 2. Rune 2 which was supposed to be released on Steam next year was launched on Epic Store earlier this month. While this will be the final game that we will see from Human Head Studios, it will not be the end of the team, who are all moving to Bethesda.

Human Heads Studio Team Now In Bethesda

Katherine Stull (Human Head Community Manager) wrote in the company’s blog update that after 22 long years of creating games, the independent studio has been forced to shut its doors due to economic issues. She further stated that while the company is closing down, the amazing team that has been assembled are still very much together. Human Head Studios contacted Bethesda following its decision to fold, and its entire team were offered jobs. Additionally, a new project, Roundhouse Studios, is being formed from the team, and they are expected to take on a couple of mystery project in the coming months.

What Does This Mean For Rune 2?

Since Rune 2 came out only a few days ago, the future of the game is unclear. With the company closing operations, it suggests that preorders for the game couldn’t have been that great. As an online co-op and PvP game, it would be expected that Rune 2 should have a high degree of support. However, this does seem problematical since the developer has now shut down operations. The publisher of Rune 2, Ragnarok, has expressed shock following Human Head’s closure, seemingly they were unaware that this was being considered. However, it has promised to continue to provide support for the game.

Seagate launches new FireCuda storage devices

0
Seagate FireCuda Storage Devices

Seagate has been more and more agressive with their marketing campaings that aim for gamers, especially with the upcoming support from AMD. To finish up the year, they presented their newest FireCuda 520 SSD and FireCuda Gaming Dock, both of them representing the next generation of storage devices and trying to enter the Best SSD For Gaming as well as Best USB C Hub. We can’t blame them though, it’s a lucrative market.

One of the first SSD’s to support PCI Express 4.0 bus

The FireCuda 520 SSD is among a few drives that use the PCI Express 4.0 bus allowing it to reach high read and write speeds. The sequential read speed for the device is at 5,000Mps which is similar to what present PCIe 4.0 SSDs offers. Its sequential write speed is also rated at 4,400Mbps (x4 Gen4 link has a maximum throughput of approximately 8,000Mbps, so FireCuda 520 is yet to hit the bottleneck).

The device is available in 500GB ($124.99), 1TB ($249.99), and 2TB ($429.99).  In theory, the FireCuda 520 series is extremely fast. Using this drive requires a motherboard with PCIe 4.0 support, and presently, only AMD’s X570 offers such capability in the consumer market. The device works on PCIe 3.0 motherboards, but you won’t get the top speed.

A gaming dock and external disk in one

FireCuda Gaming Dock is another new storage device developed by Seagate. It’s mainly an external storage device with a built-in 4TB hard drive alongside a PCIe Gen 3 slot that allows you to add M.2 form factor solid-state devices. Connecting the dock to PCs is done using Thunderbolt 3. The dock includes other ports such as GbE LAN port, two 3.5mm jacks (for mic and audio), DisplayPort 1.4 connector, and USB 3.1 Gen 2 ports. When connected, the device lights up, and it is priced at $349.99. Additionally, it is expected to be on the market later this month and has a 3-year warranty.

A new ALIEN Tabletop RPG game is coming

0
ALIEN Tabletop RPG

From the rigorous world of the ALIEN films comes the ALIEN tabletop RPG that brings the space adventure to your home. The game was created thrugh a collaboration between Free League Publishing and 20th Century Fox. Players are immersed in the vast, dark and unfriendly void of space to explore the possibilities of the Outer Rim Frontier. The game is set to bring in unique characters and engaging gameplay experiences. Given the ominous warning that your character’s chances of survival are slim, it looks like the game will bring home the bloody horror the franchise is known for.

What do you mean “They” cut the power? How could they cut the power man?

The game, as described by its creators Free League Publishing, has two playable modes; campaign and cinematic. The campaign mode gives you long continuous play over multiple game sessions while you cruise the Alien universe freely. The cinematic play mode, however, takes you through pre-set scenarios adapted from the Alien films. This mode has been created to be played in a single session. The ALIEN Tabletop RPG takes you into the ‘everyday’ life of space: corporations going about their business of tapping valuable resources, rival governments waging aggressive cold wars, strange and deadly surprises dwelling in the shadows of every asteroid. Its a game crafted on hair-raising encounters at every turn.

ALIEN Tabletop comes with a 392-page rule book designed by the game director

It comes as a hardback book with cool illustrations. Accompanying it, there’s a set of maps and markers, a GM screen and a set of custom dice. To cap it all, for the hardcore fans out there, an official cannon consultant was on hand to oversee the story — making sure the mythology of the films was preserved.

The goodies in this incredible game will be available on the Free League website and retail shops worldwide soon.

GTA5 is still going strong with 5 million copies sold

0
GTA 5 Sales Report

Grand Theft Auto 5 sales reached a total of 115 million copies according to Q2 reports of Take-Two, owner of Rockstar Games. Back in May, total sales were 110 million copies, showing that another 5 million copies were sold since then. Sales reports also show that an average of 10 million GTA 5 copies are sold in a year. For an action-adventure video game that came out in 2013, these numbers are pretty impressive.

The most profitable entertainment release ever

GTA 5 was initially released for PS3 and Xbox 360 in 2013 and thanks to the popularity of the Grand Theft Auto title, Rockstar shipped 29 million copies in just two months. In the following years, Rockstar released GTA 5 for PS4, Xbox One and PC, keeping it popular among gamers, and increasing sales.

What truly keeps GTA 5’s popularity high are GTA 5 Cheat Codes, Community Mods and GTA Online, the online multiplayer mode.

Even though games like Minecraft and Tetris have sold more copies, GTA 5 remains as the most profitable entertainment release ever, generating more revenue than any other game published on consoles or PC.

Can Red Read Redemption 2 out-sell GTA 5?

In the same quarterly fiscal reports, Take-Two announced the sales of other popular video game titles. Red Dead Redemption 2, the western-themed game that came out in November 2018, has reached 26.5 million copies. Borderlands 3, another fan favourite, sold 7 million copies in just 2 months after it’s release back in September.

Even though it’s unlikely for these games to reach the sales numbers of GTA 5, the numbers are still in green for Take-Two.

Although we are huge fans of their product lines, the truth is that their naming scheme was always in need of an improvement.
